Exclamation 50,000 miles + drivers

How come I never hear how reliable the 996 is from people that have owned the car for over 50k miles? Is everyone selling off their 996s at around 50k miles cause they know that the big $$$ repairs are coming up?

My 01' 996 had about 70k miles with no major problems...

..got rid of it when the lease was up, not because of reliability

These cars are not cheap to maintain but if maintained properly, it will run strong and gives you miles of smiles.

bought mine with 28k 2+ years ago. Driven daily, now I'm up near 75K. Love Love Love it. My only real problem has been with my cooling system, but even that's not a big deal.

They are very reliable. With any high-end expensive vehicle there will be maintenance/ownership costs. We're not selling becuase of ownership costs.

I think some people sell to trade up (ie turbo or newer model w/ bigger engine). Horsepower is addictive (and I know that's the ONLY reason I would sell my baby)

99 C2 w/ 93K ( pic in avatar)

last 43K of which has had 100 shot nos

last 23k has had single turbo/intercooler AND 100 shot nos

No engine problems other than some oil leaks that were solved with catch can

Original clutch went to 50k and 1st replacement went to 92K

It has been driven hard every day of its life and has never let me down (knock on wood)

Just pulled the turbo off and built a magnaflow exhaust for it and now it feels terribly slow and boring. (and loud)

Thinking of what else to do to it. (Ls1 conversion, ???)

Bought my MY99 C2 three years ago with 50,000 miles on it. Since that time I have replaced the coolant tank twice within 15 months of each other, and had the dealership fix a small RMS leak which was covered under my extended warranty. Also, had the dealer replace one cat that went bad, under the federal emissions warranty.

Otherwise the car has been great and it now has 66k miles.

My old 03 C4S had 64k miles on it, no issues at all. Traded up to a turbo. Recently talked to the guy who bought it, he drives it everyday just like I did, think it's over 80k now!
