+1.

although i had an audi that did that once in awhile. i kept messing with clutch switch and even bypassed it and to this day i'm not sure if that was it.

it was so sporadic i never was able to figure it out.

i even had to pop start the car a couple of times. then it went away, and never came back.

Mine was not starting and it was the transponder in the key.
Try a different key?

Regards Mika

Hey Ben, i had a similar issue on my car, when I did all the work this past summer I replaced the Starter Solenoid and it has worked perfect since. By how much you are driving the car right now it may be something you can live with till spring..

Merry Christmas to you and your family Ben!!

does it make any difference if you put the key in and immediate turn it to start the car, vs. put the key in - click it over only far enough to run the oil level check - then click it over to the next notch to start the car?

You just had it in the shop and all checked out OK. So, what did they have to say about this issue?
Let me guess.... "If we can't reproduce the problem, we can't diagnose it."
