how do cats go bad causing need for replacement? are the stock cats prone to this problem? do all cats have a "lifespan"?

IIRC, cats have a federal required lifetime of 8 years. If your cat goes bad in that time, take it back to the dealer for replacement.

Think my cat is throwing codes P0420, 0430. I replaced the 4 O2 sensors and so far threw code one time in about 1000 miles.
