Very nice unit surround. Who did the work and what is the material used?

where did you get the trim piece from.. This seems to be the biggest obstacle with installing the double dins..

There's a great kit available on eBay. I used it and it works great.

I am guessing you just put in Porsche double din kit or something to that effect?

double din faceplate

I used the kit from ebay and it worked well from euro motospeed. These guys are really nice and easy to deal with. I was going to shoot them an email to see if they can make a plate out of the abs plastic that matches the interior instead of the gloss black. I still havent heard back where the other plate on this thread came from.... If anyone else has install the double din nav. units we can use a few pics. and a little info on where you purchased your trim plates

Mine was the same euro motorspeed from ebay. Simple and perfect. Easy to install and they were really nice when I called them.

I went with the Alpine 505 also since it so clean looking and at first glance, almost looks factory. Initially, my guys went with gloss black for the face plate but I had them fabricate a matt finish to match the interior. I'll post a pic tomorrow.

I ordered the glossy black trim form euro motospeed and will get it on sometime this week when I get the rest of the job done ( still having a sub and an amp put in). I had the shop put in the Pioneer AVIC-F90BT last month and had to wait for the sub enclosure to be made. I'll post pics as soon as I get it on.

What sub are you putting in the car and where if you don't mind me asking?

This is very informative. I've been thinking about putting a similiar unit in my E55. I just started looking around and checking out the units from Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer and Eclipse. Eclipse has a new unit coming out in April so I might wait to see what that will be like. I am excited to see everyone's install. Thanks.

It was going to be 10" JL but the enclosure I got off the Bay is not fitting correctly under the passenger footwell and it doesn't account for the carpetless metal void when you remove the OEM Bose subwoofer. So I'm a little bummed, so I'm gonna go with an 8" JL and have the local shop fabricate an enclosure similar to the OEM but deeper. Looking to add a little rumble to the OEM system- nothing fancy (will run an old Soundstream D100II to the JL). Should have pics this weekend or early next week.

Any pics yet? I am actually putting in the Alpine 505 with their single din center channel as well. I have a full system that I will be putting in over the next month or two. I am going to use JL Audios new flat 13.5 sub and install in behind the rear seats to fire at the rear window. I will have a JL 450/4 amp and a 1000/1 amp upfront and one of their 5.1 DTS processors to allow for true surround sound in the car. I have a similar setup in my VW Jetta Wagon that I use as a daily driver. It is over kill I know but I enjoy this stuff so to each his own I guess.

Sorry TMAC, you probably missed my thread:

Sounds like a nice system you got goin on, I was also contemplating the JL Flat sub but ultimately didn't want to sacrifice the room. Please post pics when you can, thanks!
