You're correct, 305s are fine on 11s, however only the 6GT3s come with 11s and those are 18s. The 7GT3s come with 12s on 19s.

Have you fit the Carrera Sports or are you assuming they will fit? I want to replace my design sports with carrera sports but no one has been able to confirm the fit.
Cheers,
Stan

We saw a pic of another 996 with them on, so we're guessing they should fit without much issue. See pics below.

That said, this is a friend's car and he's been eyeballing 19s for a while now for their aggressive size, but with the overwhelming preference for the GT3 rim style, the 18" GT3 rims as came with the 6GT3s is an alternate option and will fit without drama. So we'd like your opinion, if you had your choice of the 18" GT3 rims, or the 19" Carrera Sports which would be your vote?

19" Carrera Sports:

18" 6GT3 rims:

Steve,
Thanks for the pics of the carrera sports on a nb 996; I hadn't seen any before.
I think the sports are one of the nicest wheels Porsche has offered. Regarding your choice; from a performance perspective the 18's will work better. Esthetically I think the 19" sports look better.

Cheers,
Stan

Oddly, I just noticed that Tire Rack is showing the fitment of 19" dia. 12" wide 68 offset Volk Wheels as a possible option on a 996 NB.

So... in the end... will the 997GT3 wheels work on a 996 or not?

We finally fitted the 11.5 Carrera Sports on the 996 and it fit with plenty of clearance. In the end 12s should fit the rear no problem, and the fronts could actually be another 1/2" wider to the outside. We are looking in to spacing the fronts another 12-14 mm out.

I cut the lower inner portion of the fender liner away where it bulged out against the inside of the rear tire. On the 7GT3, this is also cut away, with a duct coming through to cool the rear brakes. There is probably another inch or inch and a half of clearance on the inside afterwards.

The 7GT3 wheels offset out about 5mm too much if you use a -1.25 rear camber. You either have to go with a -2.0 camber, or modify the offset as I described previously and all should work fine. There really is little difference between the rears of a 996 and 997.
