997 GT3 wheels on 996 NB (pic)

We were trying to determine the absolute max wheel fitament on a 996 nb so we installed the wheels off a 997 GT3 onto this '99 996 to determine possible wheel options. The rear 997 wheel is 19x12 with 305-30-19s P-Zero Rossos. When rear camber was -2.0, the outer edge of the tire was flush right with the upper edge of the fender. Setting the rear camber to -1.25, the outside of the tire protrudes about 5mm past the fender. Inner clearance is no problem, it would just require trimming of the forward lower portion of the plastic wheel well liner just as the 997. I suppose if we really wanted to make this fit, we could either go back to -2.0 camber, or machine 3mm off the brake disk face, and 2 mm off the inner wheel face. Anyways here's a pic. Front was photoshopped on as we didn't want to bother remounting the fronts again.

why would you need to machine the brake disc? Looks awesome. I'm running 997 carrera S wheels with 305 tires. those are 11" wide.

That would effectively change the offset of the wheel "bringing it in" and allowing it to clear the fender.

Looks good btw...

now I get it. Machine 3mm from the hat of the disc. But that may turn the wheel/tire closer to the lateral cross bar under the car?
I have 305's and running pretty close to those...

I have the 996 GT3 wheels on my '00 996 C2 Cab and the fit is perfect. The main difference is the wheel width, mines are 11" wide compared to the 12" on your 997 GT3. Beside that the design seems to be the same though... Cheers

Thanks. Everything we've read and everyone we've talked to say no way 12" wide wheels will fit. 11.5" is the max I've heard of. But I think 12s can be done and look right. The alternate is the Carrera Sport wheels which are 11.5", which has been photoshopped on from another 997 GT3 and should fit without machine work.

Which ones would you guys vote for:

a) OEM GT3 or
b) Carrera Sport:

It's possible with 18s that the rim could run close to the cross bar, but with 19s, there is an additional 1/2" lateral clearance, so I don't think it would be issue. There seemed to be plenty of clearance there.

If you are only running 305s, why do you need a 12" wheel? For that size tire, an 11" would be fine, no?
