Engine Compartment Fan Failure Light

Hello folks,

My engine compartment fan has operated normally... turns on while in traffic and after parking the car etc. My p-car runs solidly between the 8 and 0 warmed up. The other night, the engine compartment fan failure popped up on my display although the temperature needle wasn't moving at all. I pulled over only to see the fan was on. This continues to happen now and I've verified the fan keeps coming on as it normally would. Any suggestions prior to a visit to the shop?

It's an 03 C4. The actual wording shows up on the menu screen "engine compartment fan failure". In addition the red light on the temp. gauge starts blinking, however, the fan is working.

I am not sure if this is specific to the 03 C4, but the flashing temperature light on the older 996's indicate the following:

1. Engine coolant level too low -- light flashes slowly (0.5 Hz)
2. Engine compartment temperature too high -- light flashes slowly (0.5 Hz) (engine compartment blower might be faulty)
3. Engine coolant temperature too high -- light is on solid and gauge to the right
4. Temperature sensor at water outlet faulty -- light flashes rapidly (1 Hz) ; pointer on the right

If this holds true to your car, I would check your coolant level. As for the fan, check to make sure it is not on all the time. If it is, it will cause the warning but may simply be a bad connection to the sensor in the engine bay.

IS there any way to test if this fan is running proper0y or a manual way? I've just noticed mine rarely on if ever. Front one runs fine, but rear I dont really pay attention till now, and all connections were plugged in.
