New Tires

This is such a great site, congrats to 6speedline for a super site. I'm looking at Kumho Ecsta SPT for the price point. Since i go through tires every year. Any thoughts.

I've got a set of those for sale at $400 shipped to lower 48. They have about 85% of the tread and no patches or plugs. Size: 18" in 225/40 and 295/30.

i have about 6k on a set and i'm very happy with them. i'm in the same boat with frequency of replacement (23k+ annual miles... my dd). i can't see spending over twice the amount for driving up and down the freeway. as far as performance, i have not surpassed spirited driving so can't comment until i hit the track with them. i think they will be fine as saving a second or two per lap is not what it's about for me. don't listen to the haters and see for yourself. i would jump on those for $400 as long as they weren't made several years ago. four almost new tires for the price of one pirelli. can't beat that!

I got sumi htr Z III's for the turbo. Amazing tire. Check them out on TireRack...ask Damian. I think short of the ps2, they are the best thing going for P cars if they have your size.

And the price is probably as low as anything else.

Cool

Tire Rack lists them for $90 F & $177 R. That seems like a good price to me

I'm running on S-02As right now and will need new rears soon. Anyone had both of these tires on their car that could provide a comparison? My car is my DD as well.

Kumho Exsta SPT are great on the street as long as it's over 50 degrees, really bad in the wet under 50. They're also great for AX but on the track they are useless.

As long as the ambient temp is over 50, the Kumhos are quite sticky even cold unlike the Michelin PS2 I had before, they needed to come up to operating temp before they developed grip. The problem on the track is that they require a lot of air pressure to keep them from rolling over (the side wall is quite soft). The relatively high air pressure (38+ front, 42+ rear hot) makes the greasy after one or two fast laps.
As for the wet+cold grip, I had the rear tires break loose in 2nd gear at 4000rpm on a flat straight road when the road was wet and temps under 50.
