For Doc, yes, all the time with the B&M, and I really got tired of trying different adjustments. The 997 setup was cake to install, and I even used an Evoms link, which made it a bit harder.

It's more money but the premo shifter is the Porsche Short Shifter. It goes for about $500 but since everyone confuses these for the Porsche upgrade short shift kit you can sometimes find them for cheap (mine was $175 from a test driver here in Stuttgart). Porsche warns that in cold temps it could be notchy for third but I drove mine all winter this year without any notchy feeling. Just a tip - I doubt you will be able to find one easily.

My B&M is notchy too, especially in the winter. I was given advice to throw some silicon lubricant of various moving parts to help. Haven't done that yet. Has anybody else?

I had the rear console off this morning for my iPod installation and examined the B&M shifter without obstruction. It seems to me that it could use a shim between the stick and central assembly. There was just a tiny bit of play in the mechanism. I'm wondering if this contributes to the feeling of inaccuracy?

I've used both the 997 oem short and 997 oem ssk on my 996tt.

The oem 997 was still a bit too long for me, and i switched it out for the 997 oem ssk within a week.

997 OEM SSK is on sale at suncoast now for $350.

I'm very happy with the 997 OEM unit, it should be a first mod for any 9x6 owners.

Thumbs up

We have the 997 SSK's on sale for a little while longer, we have a few remaining at the old pricing. The other big advantage of the 997 console and the 997 SSK is that they both come with the alignment tool, this helps make installation a little easier (no chance of mis-alignment).

B&K SS kit at trans

Just after i got my 02 996 2 yrs ago i bought an undercarriage B&K SS kit that attaches to the trans arm for about $110 or so. Shift is shorter and nice and smooth since it uses the stock shifter. I believe these have discontinued but see them occasionally on line.

I have the under carriage SSK and am happy overall but would like a little shorter throw. I wonder how the under carriage SSK would pair with the 997 shifter.
