DIY (4)-stalk install??

Anybody have DIY or a link for removing the standard (3)-stalk and installing the (4)-stalk mechanism to utilize the on-board computer functions.

Thanks!

Yes I did. Many variations on the install. Too bad Porsche doesn't sell the 4th stalk by itself. Would make this a VERY cheap install...........

Hi, If you just want to add the OBC you do not need to remove the entire stalk.
You can simply cut an opening in the rubber side gasket, and screw the OBC stem onto your existing control stalk with 2 screws, use a cable tie to reattatch the 2 cables. It will save the hassle of taking out the airbag etc

I did the 4-stalk OBC mod when my car was about a year old. It's well worth the extra effort to do the 4-stalk version because the result is indistinguishable from the factory 4-stalk OBC. One thing I would advise, regardless of which version you do would be to solder your connections rather than using crimp connectors -- you'll avoid potential problems down the road. I soldered mine, and 7 years later, I've had no issues.

(4)-stalk install:
From everything that I've read, the only 'solder' would be applied on the Ground crimp. Is there something more?

From what I recall, there's a wiring harness that you need to make up using VW wires, by connecting them together. You can either crimp them together or solder them at your workbench before hooking them up to the car (one end to the dash and the other end to the stalk). You can also solder the ground spade to the wire.

You need to buy VW part no 000 979 010 a set of 5 cables.
Cut about 100mm of wire and solder in place of the [4] existing cable ends, the push in connectors are different sizes. Label the connectors so you know which goes where.
Stalk...........Cluster WHITE
1--------------Earth
2--------------20
3--------------21
4--------------22
5--------------25

Hope this helps

Ok. Now I'm confused. I have the wire diagram as follows. It's for a (5)-wire setup:
TERM 2 TO TERM 20,
TERM 3 TO TERM 21,
TERM 4 TO 22,
TERM 5 TO 25.
ATTACH THE #1 WIRE TO ONE OF THE GROUND TERMINALS UNDER THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER

for a 2000 C2, I assume I will be using the 1997 - 2000 "986" instructions, correct?

Thanks!

yes, that's what i did. without the stalk. used a footwell light switch face with a spoiler switch body for the control. only function not availabe is the speed gong with this method - use stalk if you want that function.

let me know if you have questions.
