Unhappy why all the fuss!!!

hi there guys...

i have to say that i have been reading ALOT about the RMS leak..

i dont think its a BIG deal...that doesnt mean i wat it to be there but sometimes we have do deal with the "faults" with our cars,

even if its $80,000 or even more+ car... porsche makes the BEST practical sport cars in the WORLD peroid...

all porsche(that i know ofand can think about) came with a certin weak point 993,964,986,3.2,SC and the whole lot....

so do people make it out to be a big deal?? are they jut 996 haters?? porsche haters?? or maybe people who want to "upgrade" and still cant make it
or do they say that to scare people from buying them second hand and THINKING its a major thing and would cost alot to repair?? (i saw at other websites people with just 1-2 posts writting BS about the 996)

i like my car and accept it with all its faults and most important of all the joy it give me

vivre PORSCHE and the 996

I've had six RMS leaks between two Pcars. Approximate cost of repairs are between $900 and $1200 I believe. The actual RMS cost is around $25.

ps all have been under warranty. The only thing it has affirmed for me is that I will never not own a porsche out of warranty. Hook, line and sinker. I guess I'll always need to purchase new.

I just brought mine in this past week for the 15k service and share my views with Robyn.. As much as I love this car, I will definately have to trade her before the warranty runs out. I decided that when my service advisor told me they had to replace the RMS. No biggie though, as long as it's under warranty, I see no need to make a stink about it.

It appears Porsche has finally figured out how to get enthusiasts into new cars.

I used to be one of those people that said "What's all the fuss about? I know lots of people who haven't gotten an RMS leak."

And then it happened to me at 30K miles, along with a camshaft leak. The mere fact that you can't ever get this topic to die (on all 3 major Porsche boards on the net, flat-6, rennlist, and here) means that there's really something going on.

Along with the RMS problem, and all of the other problems with my 996, I will never buy one out of warranty. My next 911 will be a 993TT (hopefully!).

Its a problem. Just like the HVAC problem I've had on all 3 E39's ('97 through '01 BMW 5 series) I've owned or the wiring harness failures on late 80's SL's.

The cost of repairing the BMW HVAC is $1,400, almost double that for RMS. You don't want to know the cost of replacing an SL wiring harness.

Its part of the price we pay for driving a car that, overall, is far less costly to maintain than any of its more expensive competitors.

To own any German car outside of warranty is a risk. Hopefully you have a decent dealer. I don't even bother bringing my cars to BMW. I just paid my independent MB mechanic to have a vanos sensor fault diagnosed (no the fault code did not define anything remotely close to the issue) and replaced on a BMW still under warranty. For a good part of $1,000 I have the knowledge that the job was done right and the fix should hold. With the P's, I've never had any concerns about the quality of the work performed at the dealerships.

Maybe I don't get it and I know you love your car, but doesn't this come under the Lemon Law? I thought If they were unable to fix it after 3 tries they replace the car. Didn't you have that option?

The laws are slightly different in California, and well...let's just say...Porsche took care of business. Contrary to what some have experienced, Porsche has always provided me with top notch customer service, service of my vehicle and made sure to make things right, when they have clearly been very wrong.

might as well just get a ferrari then since it's just as fast, more fun, looks better, depreciates less, and requires less maintenance (warranty and otherwise).
