996 as daily driver?

Hello everyone. I am considering getting a 2002 996. Would a C4 cab make a good daily driver? (I don't have kids) Winters here are pretty bad, how would it drive in the snow with some snow tires?

^ so there are a lot of guys that have 996s as daily drivers. Comfort and performance wise, they're great.

Personally, for a car I'd just be piling miles onto, I'd want something a bit cheaper per mile, unless I knew I could commit to the 996 for a decent chunk of time, like 3 years or so.

Thumbs up

YOU CAN DRIVE ANY CAR AS A DD, and if you can afford a porsche you should be able to afford a second car, unless you buy one cheap enough and dont care about resale....i drove my vette as a DD, and it was great i only drove a second car in bad weather

I also havent had my car that long, but it seems like a nice car to drive around all the time, there designed to be driven , thats y they have a back seat , so you can convince your wife its a good family car!!! lol

hope that helps

The 2002 has already depreciated so much driving it as a DD should be fine.

I honestly had mine as a DD for two years but the winters kept me home a lot. I found a cheap dodge durango that I drive in the winter and rain. I would try and find a decent beater so that you don't beat on the Porsche in the snow and rain

+1. for the most part winters are not that bad when the snow is cleared. But, when there is salt on the road, which is almost always, or when there is fresh snow on the road, the Porsche does not take is well. do yourself a favor, get a used Jeep - very cheap.

+1 get at least a cheap FWD car. I wouldn't be able to drive my car all year in Chicago, potholes and all.

+1 which I think is the big plus of buying pre-owned... I use mine as a DD, but I also have a F-150 S'Crew for the rain (and trips to the dump), which doesn't happen much in So Cal...

Wow Ronny, except for the wing, your car looks a lot like mine...

I just got my 02 c2 cab for my DD. I'm in CT, so we get the same weather as you. I've always had rwd sports cars as my DD, and as long as you have good snows I've never had a problem. A c4 would help, but dont count out c2's if you find a nice one.

I dont get it. These cars were designed and built in a country that has crappie winters. I cant believe that anyone would think a Porsche cannot stand up to winters. I get the idea that you dont want to subject the car to the winters but the car will do fine. These are cars not art pieces. Just my 2 cents.

They are fine during the winters but I try not to let it out of the garage when it's snowing out because of all the salt and everything on the roads. Other than that, it's a great DD except if you need to go grocery shopping or carry anything of significant size

C4 Cab daily driver here, all year long. With proper tires, it does significantly better in the snow than my Pathfinder. You'll be very happy with it.

Buy a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks for winter driving and you'll be fine. I do not drive my 996 C4 Cab in the winter but I had a 2006 Cayman S with an extra set of wheels with Blizzaks and it handled just fine in the Cleveland winter. Boston winters can't be as bad as Cleveland winters!

Yea the car will handle fine but with the way they over salt the roads and the potholes they make from plowing that you can't see i just try to stay away from driving it in the winter. But i do like to take it out on a parking lot and do some sliding. haha plus global warming is coming so u wont need to worry about snow much longer hahaha j/k
