Problem with my suspension?

since theres more traffic here than the Canada subforum.. here goes

purchased my first 996 a month ago, its an '03 C2, black with gt3 RS wing and works vs-xx rims

couple nights ago, when i was driving out i noticed that there was a clunking sound coming from the rear of the car, after some diagnosis(sp?) and believe that it is coming from the rear left suspension maybe some bearings or linkage is loose...

it is lowered on H&R springs

update: today i took out the rear bose sub, to see if the suspension would be loose due to the screws, guess not..
i left it uncovered, drove around, with my friend in the rear seat, and he can hear that maybe the shock is dieing.. i really dont know

Try providing a bit more info. What's the mileage of the car? Any suspension mods in addition to the springs? Like GT3 sways and afermarket drop links? It could also have nothing to do with the suspension and be an engine mount or something?

H&R sway bar
mileage: 33,000KM, previous owner drove on the suspension with H&R springs for 2 years and switched to the PSS9's then he removed it when he sold it to me
doubt it could be the engine mount, since we drove around with the headliners off, and noticed that whenever theres a bump, you would feel that the rear left shock is hitting the chassis

lowering springs are not recommended on stock shocks.... seems likely your shocks are done!

I agree with Redridge, sounds like the shock has seen it's usefull life end. Lowering springs allow the shock to drop a bit farther than it was originally designed to, making bottoming the shock out possible.

No, that's not quite correct.

Lowering springs cause 2 things - bottoming out, (which is a function of a shorter spring not being stiff enough/the shock not having enough compression damping) and more wear, since the shock is now trying to damp more force than it was designed for.

The first causes a rapid and sometimes sudden degradation of performance, the latter a more gradual degradation.

That said, I agree that the shock is probably done.

I will try to lubricate it, what are the chances t hat the bushings might be the cause of this problem? how would i check it ?

Thanks for all the inputs, hoping the shock is not done for yet
