No warranty.

Anyone here without warranty on their 996? How's she performing?

My extended warranty expired a year ago. Other than water pump (which I swapped for new one, pretty easy DYI), runs great. Daily driver around 25k a year, no problems other than the pump and it was due to happen, miles 99,500 miles. 99 C2 cab.

Thanks OhioC5; I drove a Boxter S 2006 before (leased), and did not have any problems either. I guess it is a matter of having "normal" luck and this cars do not break easily. I got mine with around 40k already, so it was broken into and I guess it was not one of the potentially problematic 99's. Now, I need to put time into modding it, I tried a couple of times but can't find the time, with this economy working twice as hard

My car didn't come with the "care about something unrelated" option.

Since 996s are now between 4-10 years old, I would guess that the vast majority of them are out of warranty. By performance you probably mean how expensive is the car to maintain out of warranty. Porsches can be expensive. Very expensive.

If you are really concerned, here is the only warranty you will ever need:

I have had good luck with my 01 C4. Until now I have only had normal oil changes. I noticed a coolant leak so I took the car in to have that looked at and my tranny. When the car was cold it would pop out of 2nd gear on its own. I had the 2nd gear replaced with a modified new one and a syncro, a new expansion tank, new spark plugs and tubes, new RMS, plus a Spec stage II clutch and LWFW. I have 48K on the car and this is all normal from my understanding. My clutch and flywheel could last a little longer but while they were in there I am saving a ton on labor by doing it now.
I do have an extended warranty which didn't cover all of this of course but a good part. They put out in one repair more than I paid for the entire warranty and I still have 3 years and 52K miles to go!

Alot depends on how a car was cared for. I have no worries about mine breaking. She is around 75k miles.

It was well cared for, and you can tell.

Did you have to replace the RMS or coolant parts? Seriously, out side of the water pump, what was the worst problem that you have had? How much did it hurt ($)?

I'm in the market but scared sh*tless!

I'm looking into buying my first Porsche, a 996, and will definitely get an extended warranty on the advice of friends in the local Porsche Club. Doing anything less is simply living too dangerously.
