Value of this speed yellow '01

Hello,

I am new to the forum, being roped in by one of my good friends who has an amazing GT2. I can't afford one of those yet, but in the meantime I've found this car that interests me and I'm hoping that you could offer advice as to what is a fair price for the car. Thank you, in advance.

2001 speed yellow w/ gt3 options (not a GT3); 17k miles
AEROKIT PACKAGE
TECHNIC PACKAGE
PORSCHE STABILITY MANAGEMENT
SPECIAL CHASSIS RIGIDLY TUNED (??)
GT3 ROLL BAR
18" SPORT DESIGN WHEELS
STEEL BRAKE LINES
GT3 HEADERS (+12HP) FABSPEED EXHAUST
GT3 SEATS
GT3 FRONT BRAKES & BREMBO REARS
YELLOW STICHING
YELLOW CENTER CONSOLE & LITRONIC LAMPS
GT3 PEDALS
FULL LEATHER INTERIOR
GT3 ALUMINUM TRIM
GT3 THREE SPOKE STEERING WHEEL
SEAT BELTS (SPEED YELLOW)
BRAKE/SHIFTER/CARBON/ALUMINUM
REAR WINDOW WIPER
WHEEL CAPS/W COLORED CREST

Service is up to date and tires have around 2k miles on them.

Seems like a special car. Will probably worth around 30k my guess. But then, for the same money, you can get some low mileage 02+ too. Bigger (arguably more reliable) engine, updated exterior, and better interior (glove box) of the 02+ 996 are more desirable in my opinion.

I think Kclipse is about right. It's kind of a special car. Probably in the 30k range? It does have really low miles for an 01. I do prefer the 02+ look, headlights, glove box, etc.

To give you an idea, I paid $32k six months ago for my 2000. It's a convertible with a hardtop. It also came with quite a few aftermarket goodies. See my signature below for particulars. It has a remanufactured engine from Porsche (original had IMS failure) with only 18k miles. Body has 48k miles.

Thank you all for your thoughts. Especially '01 vs '02 comments. This is very helpfull.

Do I need to worry about how many miles are on the car (say 60k vs 40k vs 20k)? My NSX has over 100k miles and it doesn't worry me one bit.

BTW: Nice car Doug!

no I would not be worried about the miles on this one - I bought my 1999 with 21k miles. Hopefully the previous owner kept the battery charged on a Battery tender.
Obviously higher mileage cars will be less money
Another option is to buy it and when you sell it strip all the GT3 stuff off and sell it. You may get a lot more for the car with the GT3 stuff sold separately

JoeyM, that is pretty much the car! Your pics show a much more vibrant yellow than the ones he sent. Makes me want it even more. What is your opinion of an '01 vs '02?

in real life its more pale than that. its just oversaturated in those pics.

i have never owned an '02 regular 996. i did own a '04 996TT for two years and loved that car. thats the reason i bought the '00 yellow c2 i have now. i felt like the '00 C2 i got was 75% as good of a car as the '04 996TT i had, but it cost me 33% of the price. (and selling the 996TT enabled me to buy another crazy car).

yes, it has a higher likelihood of blowing up rather than the 3.6, but that also has an incidence of engine failures. i dunno. it's a crapshoot either way. which one do you like the looks of more? i definitely wouldnt buy either one, if spending 12-15k to replace a blown motor would cripple me. cuz it definitely could happen.

i look at it this way, the original sticker on my car was over $90k. it had low miles when i bought it and was practically brand new in condition. even if the motor blows up and i have to replace it, i still would have paid less than 50% of the cost of a new one.

or to look at it another way, if i loose everything, say 30k for a car + 15k for a motor, and then i just throw it away, i'm out $45k for owning a cool porsche. but thats the absolute most i could loose, and more likely i could sell it after 4-5 yrs for at least 10k, maybe closer to 20k. so most likely, the cost after 4-5 yrs or til i get tired of it would be like $10-15k or $25-30k IF the motor goes. both of which i find acceptable because...

if i bought a brand new $90k 997 today, and drove it for 4-5 yrs i am GUARANTEED to loose at least $30k, most likely more like $40k or possibly even $50k.
