Questions about the PSE Hack
Questions about the PSE Hack
After talking to a number of people, I have been advised against installing muffler bypass valves. I did a test run with my exhaust off, and although fun, I don't think I could tolerate the drone on the highway for more than an hour. Its a bit too loud.
Moving to my question, who here has done the PSE Hack? It seems like a good medium for me. I love the sound in the clips I have heard.
The problem is, I have the 3.4 exhaust. The general consensus is that the sound improvement is not so great on the 3.4 cans as opposed to the 3.6's (when doing the MKII mod).
From what I understand:
-MKII mod (3.6) - There is a 2 1/4 pipe from bypass to outlet [see pic1]
-MKI mod (3.4) - A small bypass pipe is cut in, between the inlet and outlet of the muffler [see pic2]
So since I want a noticeable difference, I figured I should go with the MKI mod. I have seen tons of feedback on the MKII mod, but very little on the MKI mod. The only person I found who did it was here: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...haust-mod.html
He used 1 1/4 pipe between the inlet and outlet. I am just wondering if anyone else has done this, and what are your results? Have you used the same sized piping? Will a larger diameter pipe produce more sound?
And can I bring this to any muffler shop and have it done?
Thanks alot!

What I would recommend.... Darin (FisterD) offers the PSE hack in 2 flavors, all made on the 3.6 cans... the picture 1 that you have and another version which is the pic 1 plus a tube that connects the cat intake and the outlet.
I have pic 2 and even that I love it, I would like a little bit more. The car sounds awesome but I guess I should've listen to Darin, as he suggested the other hack.
No drone whatsoever. Love it.

My car had muffler delete pipes on it when I bought it.
It was too loud for me......and I love agressive exhaust.
I did the hack on the stock cans and it sounded pretty good.....but they still weigh a ton.
I tried the AP Racing mufflers and they sounded great, were lighter....but just not quite loud /agressive enough.
Finally found the Afterhours Sport Exhaust......and it is perfect for me. Loud and agressive....but not too much. It is about halfway between the AP and the muffler delete and weighs 8lbs per side.
You might want to check them out.
