New Guy here!

Hey guys just wanted to say hi. I've been reading for a week or so and decided to join. I do not own a Porsche now but I am planning on buying one. I sold the Harley and now I am thinking of doing the sportscar thing. I've always loved 911's but I also like new tech. So I have decided to look at 996's 2000-2002 range. I'm trying to keep the budget in the low 20's 25K tops. I have also driven a friends Boxster and I am thinking about 2000-2004 Boxster S's in the 15-22k range. I have never driven a 911...yet. I'm going to post on the boxster forum also. Which car would be a better every day driver?I joined this site to educate myself on all the things to look for when I'm ready to buy. Is e-bay a good place to buy? Thanks for the help! Also I do not plan to race or rally. I want a stock dependable every day sports car.

Welcome! All are good choices and make fine DDs... These days you may be able to find a 996 in your price range if you stick with a C2 Coupe - but the market seems to get better every day as a buyer. The general rule is to get the newest one you can afford. I suggest you drive each... If you're something of a wrench-head, the 996s are easier to work on than the Boxsters so I hear.

E-bay may be good, but I found mine on the Auto Trader. Another route is to shop the forums like this one, or rennlist or pcars; forum cars that are for sale were owned by folks that cared enough to participate in these kinds of forums - they would likely be owned by enthusiasts that took better than average care of their cars. It took me about three months to pull the trigger, but that was last August before the bottom seemingly dropped out - bottom line is take your time, you're sure to find what you're looking for at the price you'd like to pay. Good luck!

Rudy
