Ummm. Not sure what it is. I installed the B&M and have been very happy--I think you can get them now for around $100. Changing out the shifter is a PITA and the price of failure is high! Why go with an unproven option when so many guys have installed the B&M?

i had one on my 996 and grew to hate it over time. it shortens the throw, which is nice, but the notchiness got very irritating after a while.

no. Just go with a proven item.

as noted price of failure is high.....new tranny. I have a B&M (which i like the feel of) with no issues. You can also try the Porsche 997 SSK, much pricier though.

The oem 996 ssk is a nice shifter as well, not notchy at all.
If anybody wants an old stock 996 regular shifter you can have my old one free, been sitting in my garage for years now.

To anyone considering swapping out your stock shift unit for a short throw piece I'd highly recommend swapping the plastic linkage as well while you're in there. 9 times out of 10 it's this piece which fails regardless of which brand of shifter you install as the shorter throw puts more stress on the linkage itself. EVOMS has a billet aluminum one to replace the stock plastic piece and it's cheap insurance as you'll be stuck roadside if it fails. I've seen it happen too many times to count... Here's the link to Evo's piece: http://evoms.com/marketplace/ViewPro...45E6FCABD9C%7D
