Arrow 5 Year Extended Warranty

Hey guys!

So I took my car to the dealership the other day to get a major tuneup. A few small issues with the car, but they fixed it no problem. Then, they offered me an extended warranty for 5 years for any engine/transmission damage. Exact cost? $3,710.00

They told me that if there was a problem with my engine/transmission, and that if I didn't have the extended warranty, I'd be paying roughly about $8,000 - $12,000 to have it repaired or replaced.

One of the employees mentioned to me that there was one customer who had a serious engine problem, had no warranty, and paid $12,000 upfront by credit card to have the work done on his Porsche.

Long story short, is it worth it? Voice your opinions guys! I need to know by tomorrow! (It's the deadline)

Gracious!

Classic topic... I personally have a 3y/36K warranty that I paid $3300...

An RMS/IMS later (~$2K), they're still ahead but I have 2 more years to go on it.

It's all about buying peace of mind and at the end of the day you're betting $3,710 against an insurance company that your car will have a major breakdown.
Up to you! Do a search on this forum, it was discussed before.

GL!

After the CPO ran out in Dec, I didn't hesitate to get the aftermarket one that my dealer recommended 3/36 - $4,200 covers everything but wear and tear parts. Haven't had to use it yet but as mentioned above- I like the peace of mind after all I am driving a 6 year old vehicle that will be 9 by the end of the warranty - I'm sure something will come up. GL.

Hard to say if it's worth it, until you need it... I got a powertrain warranty on mine, 5 year - 150K, so 2013 or 210k miles I'm covered (or so they say)... it cost $2200, I can take it to any shop, they'll make payments directly to the repair shop and it's fully refundable if no claims are filed during the warranty period... Remains to be seen, but I do sleep easier at night...

Why is mine so expensive compared to you guys'?

Oh well, today is the last day. I'm going to head to the dealership in a couple of hours. Any last suggestions before I spend $3,710 (18 iPhone 3GS's) on a whim?

But! That is a whole 3,710 Wendy's Double-Stacks! D:

Does the warranty have any issues with aftermarket parts?

For most cars, that would be too high a percentage of the value of the car being spent on a warranty.

But not for Porsche. They have ways to stick it to you when something breaks, so $5K is a lot, but it's a 1/3 of an engine replacement.

my996 will become famous soon enough
When I considered this issue, the dealer told me that most of the issues that come in for repair are "wear and tear" and that the after market warranties are not worth it. Oh well, I hope my engine doesn't blow up anytime soon.

Does the dealer selling the warranty do an inspection of the vehicle? Does it matter if you have a pre-existing condition?

I bought the car from a private a party and then an extended warranty from the dealer (after market). I went through their "finance dept'" and they did not even asked to see the car!
