Question Do you drive your 996 everyday?

Guys,

Quick question - is the 996 a sound enough car for daily driving (i do about 100 miles a week)?

Reason I ask is that I'm considering the purchase (per my last thread) and was wondering if such a sports car is only suitable for shortish weekend drives?

Cheers,

J

if i drove every day i might drive it every day, but you're worried about 100 miles/week? you could do a few times that /day without any worries. these cars are bulletproof.

I used to, but these NY winters are tough. Unfortunately it took me 10K miles in 6 months before I realized this and bought a second car...a Honda Civic Hybrid btw...just a little extreme.

I could drive it everyday if I wanted. About 50 a day, 90% of which is highway. However, in anticipation of purchasing this car we went out and bought a new pathfinder. I like the security of driving a 4 wheel drive in the two to three snow storms we get each year.

Typically I drive it three days a week now and will probably cut that down to once or twice a week during the winter (weather permitting).

I drive mine almost every day, approx. 250 miles per week. Hard to think of a better daily driver (that's still a sports car).

I drive mine everyday, about 250 miles a week, not including my weekend jaunts. I have found this car actually more enjoyable to drive than my previous Porsche (Boxster S). It's terrific.

Hi Robyn, good luck sorting that lil' leak out. PIA but I'm sure once it's sorted you are going to be having so much fun. Awesome stereo too...

I'll remind you and some of the folks there yesterday when we go on that next drive. By the sounds of it, some of those guys will be bringing up the rear and not you

Hiya Sharky - Super nice meeting you! Your car was gorgeous...the sound...WOW! Looking forward to attending a drive soon. I'll know more tomorrow on what the verdict is on "PC". And here I thought my new kitty was house trained...I shouldn't have gotten rid of the litter so soon! Oil leak six in my Porsche experience....ahhh...life is good!

PS I'm taking my aggression out on the poor Boxster Tiptronic parked in my garage.

Funny thing, when I picked the loaner car up yesterday from the dealer, I punch it to get on the freeway....and it didn't go anywhere...it just kinda pooped out (or did it's normal thing, depending on how you look at it). The difference is night and day. You know...there is no going back. Only up! Turbo here I come!

Great meeting you too and thanks! You should hear it at WOT, it's crazy-crazy loud. This video doesn't do it any justice:

Sigh it's a shame about that lil' problem, but Porsche's been good about fixing that stuff. Took a while for mine to get litter-box trained as well. You are so right, it is night and day. I love how the boxster is so neutral in terms of handling but it's screaming for more power. Great for AutoX but I'm too used to losing traction from 2nd to 3rd nowadays lol.

After seeing SY in the flesh, I think my next P-car will have to be that color.

PS Speaking of loaners, I'll be getting one on Tuesday as mine goes into repair that silly lil' fan that never comes on (plus a new battery). I'm wondering, Boxster or Cayenne? I always wanted to try Paris-Dakar...

My 996 is my only car so I drive it whenever I need to drive (unless I borrow one of my parents' cars).

My C4 conv is my only car, so it gets used for everything, from runs to Home Depot to carrying my Mtn Bikes to and from the trail...
