Oil correct level

On my 99 Cab, it shows around 2-3 on the oil gauge when idling but when i check the dipstick after 5 minutes with the engine off, the level looks just fine. It's been about 2 years since the last oil change although i added just about 2k on the mileage. I don't want to put more if unnecessary...Any idea?

2 YEARS!!!! you should not leave the filter or the oil in the car that long....1 Year at the MAX!!! It Idle with thin oil 0-40 new...I usually get 2-3bar....once i step on the gas it jumps to 5

If the stick says your at the correct level after sitting for a while with the motor off then your fine...your in san farncisco...try a heaver oil 15-50 Mobil 1 or something around there its always hot where you are so the thinck oil will thin out anyway

Also be careful not to put too much in, My local shop put a little bit over, maybe a half quart, and a couple of times right after, when under full throttle, around 6K RPM in a wide sweeping curve. the engine sucked a little oil.. coughed down a bit and smoked out the pipes for a minute or so.. after doing this twice, I have had no more trouble.
