Help me help my boss!
Help me help my boss!
I have recently started working with a new firm in the finance world and my boss has discovered that I am a bit of a car guy. The problem is that I am a Japanese car guy and have limited knowledge on the Porsche world. If he was interested in 240SX, 350Z, Supra or RX7 upgrades I would be all over it though, lol.
He has a 996 C2 Cabriolet which has some sort of exhaust which I assume is dealer installed due to it being so mellow. He is currently running chrome Turbo Twists but has some curb rash. Well he has been asking my advice on upgrades and I have been telling him what I can based on my general know how. I wanted to ask you guys for your opinions so that I could steer him in the right direction.
He is interested in new wheels and suspension, an intake and perhaps a new ECU.
I have mentioned the standouts such as HRE, Kenesis, etc. He is convinced that a staggered 19"/20" setup is the way to go but I am inclined to think 19s all around, opinions? Any ideas of places to look for offset recommendations? How do H&R springs compare to the Eibach springs? I would reccomend some PSS9/10s or KWs but I am not sure he will want to spend that
What about intakes, I have searched some but there is so much info that it is hard to find definitive answers sometimes as to which route seems to perform the best. Is there an intake that for the money is the standout winner?
And finally what are your takes on the ECUs, I am familiar with the companies (GIAC, AWE, etc) but do not know if they seem to be worth it.
Thanks a ton for the help.

You should send Grasshopper this way to learn for himself, but we can help some.
He should only consider 19's and not 20's at all. Wheels are highly personal choices and run the gamut in pricing, but the one's you mention have Porsche specific models. He needs a 5x130 bolt pattern, and 8-9" up fron and 10-11" in the rear. He'll need to be careful on the larger sizes and offsets to avoid rubbing.
I have PSS9's and love them, but they sure aren't the only game in town. I would avoid just doing lowering springs though, do the whole coilover route.
Someone else can comment on intakes and ECU's.

I would tell him to save his money on an intake or ECU flash. You just dont get that much bang for your buck. If he is looking for more power then he could super charge it but I would just go buy a 996tt instead. Just my 2 1/2 cents.
