oil press gauge
Well I thought I would take advantage of my extended warranty coverage.Intermittently my oil pressure gauge would drop to zero and I would get an instrument failure warning. The Porsche dealer insists that the problem IS NOT the sending unit, but the $1700.00 instrument cluster which is NOT covered by my warranty. So I payed the $108.00 and picked up the car.
Any thoughts or comments?

Usually the problem you are describing is the result of dirty/corroded connections from the wiring harness to the sending unit (dealer should know this as it's been discussed a bunch of times here and on Rennlist). Try climbing under there and pulling the wires, clean them off well and put them back on (you can use an anti sieze/anti-corrsion product if you want to). The sender is kind of tough to reach. It is on the right hand of the engine, fairly far forward.
If that doesn't solve the probelm, the dealer could be right.
