Question 2003 996 Targa purchase

Hi guys,
I have my next car in sight.
Has anyone dealt with Thomas Classic in Arkon, OH?
From the telephone everything seemed nice. Helpful and fast in response. I think they know what they are talking about. A very good thing is that I am allowed to store my car there until December/January (than I want to get it licensed).

The problem is that I only can buy the car unseen...this is the only thing which worries me. Is anybody of you in the area and can a have a look?
I will buy a extended warranty with the car to minimize any risks, but I am still a bit worried.
Or is a private alternative 2002 with less miles better?

What do you think of the car? Is the price ok? From my first slightly negotiating I have the feeling that the price wont move. The alternatives on the market are too less...

Car

Carfax

The car has the features I want and it is a one owner and good serviced. non-smoker etc.. Just the full leather is missing - but thats ok.

See if you can find someone from the PCA that lives in that area to at least look at it for you. You could also pay for a PPI.

Thanks that sounds good. I am in the USA just for 6 weeks and I dont exactly know what the PCA is. I can imagine what it is, but the rest is unclear. I will see what my research will find tomorrow

I'm sorry. PCA stands for Porsche Club of America. PPI is pre purchase inspection which is normally done by a local porsche dealer. You can probably google search and find information on Porsche Club of America in the Ohio area. Good luck.

review the porsche dealer service record. may be worth a phone call while they are not too busy to discuss the car. they can also pull up warranty history on the car too. look for any repeat RMS oil leak issue.

do you want a targa? price seems fair but targa isn't very popular. i think of it as 1/2 ***. it's like a big sunroof but it takes away the class 911 line. At least the cab gives you full open air experience. Targa is also heavier than other 911's. if you like it, then not a problem

Curious did you make a move on this Targa? I've been contemplating about selling my 2003 Targa. With 50k miles and 2 years left on the extended warranty. I also have the following mods:

pss9
evoms headers
agency power exhaust
plenum
19" Modulare M5 wheels

i test drove a 2002 Targa and opted to get a 2003 C4S -- there was a lot of wind noise with the targa (with roof closed, did not even open) and there seemed to be a few rattles when it went over bumps. Could have been this particular model, but worth checking out...
