burnt oil smell?

the other day i had some family in town and of course they wanted to see the porsche go. after getting on the car a few times and coming back, i could smell what smelled like burnt oil.

i have noticed this before, but thought it to be normal. smell went away after a bit, and car runs fine. all gauges fine.

one of the guys with me is a real car guy and he thought that oil may be dripping onto somewhere hot.

any thoughts??

I had that too. My mufflers were full of oil and grease kicked up from the road. Just cleaned them up with lacquer thinner and they look great and are now odorless.

so you were getting the oil smell from the exterior of the mufflers?

if you look at the mufflers they are right behind the wheels and all sorts of stuff gets kicked up and sticks on them, tar, oil, paint, grease. mine were a mess

Possibly the air oil separator is dripping a bit of oil that burns off and hence the smell?.

I have it too.. I am not dripping oil in my garage, so until I do, I am really not worried..

I drive my car hard every time, so the smell of clutch / burnt oil / brakes is nothing new to me.

Cool

Mine does the exact same thing also.

I have changed out my exhaust several times and have sprayed lubricant on all the bolts and clamps, so that doesn't help.

But I think the motor comes from the factory with a cosomoline (sp?) like coating, and it is is the source of some of the odor.

Ahmet will become famous soon enough
If you're not leaking anything, nothing to worry about. Mine generally get a bit of rubber mist from the rear tires with more spirited driving. I don't dislike the smell really...
