DIY fitting a roll cage...

Any of you guys done it? Is it easy? I saw a youtube clip that showed them cutting away some trim, is this needed?

I've searched here and on Rennlist but there's no step by step or write up?

Thanks...

My experience is with Techequip Porsche bar only. Yes, you do have to trim the plastic by the door sills some to make the bar fit.

Not a big deal. I also took out the side trim (umbrella holder), and center counsel before installing the bar. Take out the coat hooks as well. I used a towel to protect the hand brake.

The hardest part is to "slide it into place" once it is inside the car. At times it seems that it is impossible, just keep messing with it and it will go in.

I would have a buddy give you a hand. I took it out by myself, but needed my wife's help to put it back in.

Make sure you clean your rear window before you put the bar in as well... hope that helps.

That's the same one I've bought but hearing some people say they didn't need to trim and some (like you) say they had to, just confused.

Did you remove the rear belts at the same time? Easy?

Oh, and thanks...

wouldn't removing the front seats help as you twist/shoehorn in the cage?

You have to remove the front seats, I just took that for granted. Yes, you should also remove the upper seat belt mount (on the B-pillar).

If you have a friend, then I think this is a DIY. I would dedicate a 1/2 day to it, and take your time. I personally like tinkering with the car, so it was fun for me. I actually changed out my entire interior from blue to black/greay.

Good luck.

Having done it twice, both in and out with a tequipment bar, the toughest part for me was to get the front spacer and bolt into the seat belt hole. I must have cursed for an hour, and when that didn't help took a break. Went back at it and they both went in and tightened up. Be careful with the threads. Cover your door sills, remove the rear view mirror and take your time getting the bar in, many have torn up headliners and broken front windshields during an installation.

Right fitted it today. What a b*tch to fit. Honestly the hardest DIY I've done so far. I followed the intructions but when it came to actually bolting the b4stard thing in it was all blood sweat and swearing! It's 1000% a 2 man job!
And for the record, yes I cut away at the plastic under the carpet, there was no way around this...

I haven't installed the tequipment bar, but the DAS Sport bar was quite easy.

Installed the DAS bar today. Pretty difficult to get the two seat belt bolts started. My ONLY complaint is that as a 6'4 guy I did not realize that I would loose 3" of leg room by the seat base not being able to go all the way back. I knew the seat back would not go all the way back but didn't realize the seat base would hit the cage.

I have a Vivid Racing Roll Cage in mine and it was easy install with no cutting or mods.

Interesting bend at the base of the bar where it attaches to the seat belt bolt. I bet that allows for the seat to sit further back.
