I've looked at a '99 996 coupe w/68K miles offered at $19K (was $22K a few weeks back). Service records back to '04 look good. New clutch at 53K. Car looks clean. No oil spot under it. Its offered by a specialty car dealer who pointed out the rehab he did; repainted front bumper skin, polished headlamp lens, re-dyed seats. He even showed me the title and previous owners name. (I should've asked for the phone no.) I have some concern that its been registered in four states, but its been local for several years. Didn't drive it yet. No PPI yet.

I also have a 2000 cab auto w/53K miles to see this weekend but its offered at $28K...and 50 miles away.

Hard to tell. Would run the VIN thru google as well. If you are in So Cal, there should be lots of car local. In your price range maybe at 2002+ would be better.

I live between LA and Santa Barbara in F150 country...local used 911s are pretty scarce. LA and Orange County specialty dealers seem to snag them all, and the distance makes Porsche shopping very time-consuming.

Whatever used P-car you like, check that the VINs match, and the VIN against Carfax, also have a Porsche dealer inspect as a precondition to sale.

There are many P-cars from Eastern seaboard that were at one time immersed in various hurricanes and the Carfax should warn you about that. Not uncommon for Gremlin-plagued Uboats to resurface in other states where people don't automatically think to ask those questions.

I would say keep looking around.

I just bought a '99 996 with 34k miles and 2 years left on a carmax warranty. I'm the third owner but each owner put about 3000 miles a year on it. He also threw in the stock wheels with sumitmos and a car cover, plus an installed Beltronics RX75.

$25,750

I would add clean carfax, and totally spotless interior and exterior.
Then, the second day I owned it, some airhead rear ends me hard enough to push me into the car in front of me.
You can't win. OTOH, the car is largely ok, and I'm getting new bumpers.
