yes you should have some drained overfilled oil can cause your plugs to build up carbon and will suck into the intake manifold

Yeah, even the dealers overfill sometimes. I bought an oil extractor to pull a little out of the dipstick tube when it happens. Easiest and lowest mess approach.

I always ask the mechanic to leave the last quart with me and I top it up to "full". Lots of different ways to remove excess - I bought a plastic siphon hose at Pep Boys and removed excess that way. I've read other folks actually use the drain plug to let a little out - my fear with this method was that a little could become a lot. Good luck.

Sorry I am dropping in on your thread: how can you tell when too much oil? I add oil half a quart now and then myself. There is a stick in the engine, I pull it out, can't tell if it's enough. Thanks

porsche510- stick is a good way, but second option is put the key in ignition, turn to on but without starting. you should see a countdown in your gauges. at end of countdown it will show your oil level.
if countdown is like 10 minutes, just run car until engine is at operating temp, then do the key thing again.
