Supercharger for 996?

I've been reading this site for a while and finally signed up. I recently bought a nice black 2002 C2 Cab that is very dressed up GT2 style and with awesome rims. I'm thinking about getting a supercharger and wanted to here people's feedback. One thing I'm not crazy about is that whining sound that some of them make, but I understand not all of them do that. Any insight on best makes for cost, sound quality, HP/torque increase, etc? I understand I can increase the HP from 320 to 470, which is very tempting. Personally, I'm more interested in low end HP increase (below 4,000 RPM) than high end, but I know it usually works the other way around. Anyways, any inputs are highly welcome and appreciated!!

P.S. I tried searching first to make sure this is not a duplicate thread... I apologize in advance if it is.

Superchargers also increase torque, so you should get plenty of low end power. The only real disadvantage is that it's gonna cost you a lot
As for makes, i have heard that the VF kit is good, but the people that have actually supercharged their cars can give you a better idea there.

I bought the VF SC and installed it myself. The improvements are impressive and you really don't hear the SC whine, only the spool up and down at low RPM. Those HP numbers are very deceiving so read thru all the posts. I'm very happy with the VF kit and the support team was extremely helpful.

Our previous SC kit makes tremendous power... but like any other roots type blower, it makes noise, especially when not installed properly. We are in the final stages of development of our single turbo system if that entices you.

I'm having a VF installed as we speak (along with PSS10's). I'll post the numbers when I pick it up.

Sounds very interesting! Can you give us any information already? Power range, estimated price, differences in use between a turbo & supercharger kit? I suppose it`s quite similar to Cayman S turbo kit?

Thanks!

I had my car at the mechanic (Foreign Autohaus) for a regular service on my 996 and asked him about superchargers. The owner said he will install them, but he doesn't recommend them. He said these engines just weren't built for them, and there are typically lots of problems down the road as a result of having one put on. He was in a rush, so I didn't get a chance to ask him about turbo packages.
