XM radio install???
XM radio install???
I just got as a birthday gift a XM satelite radio with a Gift cert. for a free install from Bestbuy...
1. Any sugestions on the install to keep the factory look?
2. I also have the CDR 220... Is it compatible?
3. Can / should I have the installers try to hook it up to it some how?

Word of warning! Do not let any of those guys at best buy touch your Porsche. Do it yourself if you can and save you some heartache later on down the road. It's not that hard and all you need is just a few basic hand tools and a fuse holder. I went and bought a temporary removable AMP bracket that just clips on to the middle A/C vents and makes it easier to remove at will. It looks pretty good because it's centered above the radio and A/c controls.
I had a shop do the install, but I remember that they used the aux port on the back of the 220 and also picked an unused FM station for the XM signal. Mounted the antenna under the rear glass on top of the speaker box. Good reception and sound quality no worse than any other radio station.
I am considering how I will mount the XM Commander in my center console. I have ordered a new shelf for the center console to replace the CD storage unit. I plan to use ABS plastic to cover the opening with a hole jst big enough for the Commander to show.
I was considering mounting the antennae over the hole from my rear-windshield wiper I am considering removing. But I live in the NorthWest and the rear window wiper gets used quite bit. If there is decent reception through the glass, I'd just as soon mount it back there.
I was not aware of an aux port on the radio. I have the CDR23 hooked to the Bose system. Does it have an aux port? Why would you need a radio frequency if you had an aux port? Wouldn't it just play direct through Aux?
I will post pics of my install when I am done.
