Having said that, my old 996 had H&R springs on stockers and I didn't mind it too much. It was rough, but that was on 19" wheels
Just curious, is it unbearable rough or it's just ok. Scale of 1-5, 5 is unbearable. Thanks.

I would say it was nowhere near unbearable. Maybe a 2.

I'll put it this way, I didn't ever think about changing it. The look and lower center of gravity was worth the harsh ride for sure.

I'm shopping suspension systems now for my new 996. What I want to find most is a pair of lightly used coilovers. If that doesn't happen, I will get into a pair of cheap coilovers (waiting for more user feedback), and if that doesn't pan out I will put lowering springs on this one too.

How long / miles did you use your 996 with the sport spirngs and stock shocks? Did the shocks and dampers end up getting damaged? Thanks.

It was a few years and 30 thousand miles and no damage at all. I think the damage argument is speculation.

I think the damages is true. I got an Accord as well that I lowered by 1.5F and 1R. The springs gave up after a week of use. I'm just not sure how long a Porsche shocks can withstand the same modification.

For you it's 30,000 miles, wow! Considering how seldom I drive my Porsche if this is really the case then it will take decades for me. Oh, is that 30,000 miles from 0 miles. Mine have 70,000 miles right now so my case is maybe different. Is this true?

I just installed a set of H&R sport springs and Bilstien HD shocks on my 99' 996 today and I must say that although it feels much tighter and seems to have less roll, I would probably do coil overs if I had to do it again. I was hoping this would drop it the 1.25" that H&R claims, but to my disappointment it look more like .5" if that!

Does anyone know what might have happened and if this will settle at some point? I'm kind of regretting going this rote now :-[

You need to give them some time to settle. However, the claims that they lower the car this much and that much aren't always that accurate.

Let me tell you something funny...I'm still researching about this lowering my 996 deal....

Anymore suggestion out there? Please read my first post on this thread on my goal so I won't get any suggestions to buy JIC shocks or other expensive ones...

Don't over engineer the answer, and get either springs or a used coilover set. That will settle it.

My recommendation is still to be patient, save up a little more, and shop around for a used set of coilovers.

I really like how your car is dropped. Did you end up needing any kits like camber kits to align it? Thanks.

No camber kits or anything like that. The drop is actually very minimal. 1" F and 0.75" R. This is another advantage of the coilovers, you can adjust the stance the way you want it. I didn't like the factory nose-up stance so the front went lower than the back. Currently, I'm doing some adjustments to the damper settings from 6F/6R (which is my baseline when I installed them) to 3F/4R, given the lower the number, the stiffer it is on the PSS9s. This you cannot do with regular springs and shocks. If you need to know, I got my coilovers used with hardly any mileage at just double the price of a new set of springs. This is very worth it. You really need patience and keep on looking at classifieds.

Again...I had Porsche's Performance System installed.......the ride is stiffer, but as someone mentioned earlier....it is well worth having a lower center of gravity. My car dropped about 3/4 to 1 inch. It does take time to settle. As far as the ride? well it all depends on the road you are on....back roads are a little rougher....highway driving is fine....it's all relative. When the suspension is more active...it is only then when you notice that it's stiffer.

It's obvious your car is not a daily driver....there has been good feedback posted. Pull the trigger

Awesome, no camber kits. More savings for me. Thanks.
