Probably something to do with the gasoline vapor recovery system in the pump shutting off fuel flow prematurely. Perhaps pumping upside down may limit this sensor?

Yeah - I give "right side up" a try once in a while and get so annoyed by the click-outs that I have to go "upside down" to finish up.

This works though it overflowed a little.

Since the weather's been nice, I've been taking the bike everywhere. But I figured I'd fill up the P car today and sure enough, upside down nozzle works. It does overflow a little though, luckily any overflow was caught and didn't drip down on the paint.

So after a few months of pumping gas with the nozzle upside down, I figured I'd revive this to post a quick tip. As mentioned by others, this works 100% of the time to get a full tank but it also causes some fuel spillage 100% of the time (for me anyway). What I've taken to doing is grabbing 2-3 paper towels from the gas station, where they usually have the window cleaning squeegee. Then wadding them up and tucking it under the nozzle. Soaks up all the excess and I'm on my way.

BTW, I checked my fuses and they were all good. Good tip though.
