Question Am I crazy?

I'm seriously considering trading in my 99 996 Cpe for a '03 Boxster S. Is this a momentary lapse of reason in my relative youth? Here's the pros/cons list I'm considering:

1) New car/ new warranty
2) Box S seems to handle better than my 996 (?)
3) Lease is almost up for 996, would have lower payment with 986S (not a big problem though)
4) Not a huge power difference between the two cars

Am I missing the boat? I have a couple options, keep my current 996, buy a 986S, or lease a new 996. Anybody been through this lately?

Thanks for any input,
Scott

911 to boxster? I couldn't do it - I would feel like every time I pulled next to a 911 he would be saying to the boxster "whose your Daddy"

get a 2002 996

get a slightly used car with the warranty and stick with the 996. The pre-owned warranty is 100K miles

Can't wait to see the cross post to PPBB on this thread. You guys ripping on Boxsters.

I kind of understand the decision depending on what your preferences are in a car. If you're lucking for a cab, it's a bit more to get into w/ a 996. Also, the 986 chasis is very nice.
OTOH, I personally couldn't do it. I'd look for a slightly used 996 as mentioned above. You could even find a 996 Cab for about what you're going to pay for that 986. It won't be brand new, but it will be a nicer car.

They are not that close in power. The 986 S is quite a bit less than the 996. If you drive them side by side (as in at a track) it is demonstrated very quickly.

Last thing... you think 996's depreciate? Then will you be upset about a Boxster. It's like they're using concrete parachutes they fall so fast.

Hi Scott,
Go out and get a great deal on a 03 996. How could you ever regret that!
I'm a bit new but I think there may be a 20 horsepower increase.

i've considered putting a 3.6 996 motor in a boxstah as they say in Bahstan.

imagine 320 hp... in that mid engine handling package... it would be fun

Thanks

I think the one part I didn't really consider is the depreciation factor for the Boxsters vs. the 996s. I do like both cars, and could be happy with either (I've actually had both in the past), but I think I'll look for one of the following:

Newer Used 996
993 Turbo
964 Turbo

Thanks for the replies!
