Not wacky the salesman needs to understand the mod game has changed now. What was good for him in his time 25years ago is completely different perspective not the same nor does it benefit our generation 2010 beyond. My opinion is make it how YOU want it to look, handle, sound etc. If it was me I would change rims though the blacked out theme is getting a little old. Create a new trend people will follow you and then you will have a fad.

Your car is your car. I agree with Arrick and jr. I'm 50, my car is stock (except the clear side markers and audio system). I know my tastes are old school, and I respect you young dudes for keeping my imagination alive.

Disrespect is "wacky."

Thanks Oluke1 I am glad someone agrees with me. I am 30yrs old and I have seen trends come and go remember the whole (Fast n Furious scene)? Well, its dying out now. How about when the biggest rim was a 17' or 18' inch 12 yrs ago? Look how far we have come in car mods in the last 10yrs.....

Well, Airrik, I am 42 and I've been modding my cars since my college days since the mid-80s starting from 13" wheels to 14s, to 15s in the '90s, to 17s, 18s, and now 19s in my 996. Trends do come and go (and some are so tasteless they shouldn't have come in the first place). Nothing beats a clean well modded car with tasteful mods which could last for lots of years while some trends had come and gone. I've always modded my cars in very clean ways, except for one where I experimented with some trend. That particular car, a BMW that I've purchased brand new in 1993 which I still own up to this day, had been reverted back to how I usually mod my cars and it just looks classic that will continue to look good that I can pass it on to the next generation.

For us, there is nothing wacky with the OP's car as the mods done still continues to make it look like a Porsche to some 90% of the population (and maybe the remaining 10% consisting of purists and elitists would think of it as wacky, including salesmen continually exposed to the latest models and who also sticks with the school of thought that original factory set-up is best....yes, these people exist), but I think I can put it this way. With the new 997s, our fairly aged 996s look just that.......a bit aged even though the mid-section still looks the same....and, arguably, any non-factory aesthetic mods or upgrades on aging cars would make the car look wacky for these people. I think it really depends on the demographics. We 6speeders would scoff at the fast-&-furious Hondas, but the their demographic would look at their cars as extremely cool (and their forum members would support that opinion).

My advice to the OP is just to keep the car clean and tasteful and to continue to keep the 911 looking like a 911 (while keeping himself happy) and the car will continue to look good in the next few decades. Just put it in your head that wherever you drive, 90% of people will look at your car as their dream car.

the salesman was nuts. the car looks great. But, just to make things better, I'd be glad to help you out and drive it for you for a few days, weeks, months, whatever. Really, the guy must have some envy issues, the car is great.

good point all the way. I had the choice of a 996 C4S or a 997, and am still glad to have the 996. the headlights continue to grow on me. and, as Ben C. once noted, the 996 look is unique to P-cars, and does have a modern flair to it. some mods may be a bit extreme...but "wacky"? that comment by of all people a Porsche salesman was ridiculous. most of us are a bit "wacky" over our cars or we wouldn't be enjoying 6speed and renntech as much as we do.

Grey-haired, old, want-to-be-hip Porsche salesman, thinks he's better than you and doesn't like your custom look. Probably meant to say WACK but couldn't even get that right. He probably drives a Dodge Avenger (ugliest, dumbest looking car to be barfed out by any car maker in the last 10 years).

please forgive my last comment if there was an implication that I thought these mods were "wacky." I don't think so at all. some other mods I've seen could be called "wacky," but still in a nice way. I did forget to mention that the twin pipes are very cool. I think I saw a recent ad about these but dont recall the maker. Info on the pipes, please...
