wheel clearcoat question

Anyone run wheels with no clearcoat just polished in the NorthEast? Is it a bad idea, is maintaining these a pain?

996Jammy is infamous around these parts
I originally didn't have my polished lips clearcoated and was mos def a pain to take care of. 2nd time around, I clearcoated the lips and soooo much easier to maintain, though you do lose some shine.
For us east coasters dealing with varying weather conditions, I'd get the clearcoat.

Can clear be added to a wheel if it is not cleared when fabricated?
