Newbie - Should I Worry?

Hello all. I just purchased a 2003 C4S and I just love the car. I have however been noticing all the IMS bearing problems and low and behold the engine in my car was replaced at 32,000 miles do to an engine failure caused by the IMS bearing problem. The car now has 42,000 miles on it and seems to drive great. Should I be worried about it happening again?

Thanks.

When I bought my 99' C2 I did an immense amount of research on the IMS failure problem. The best estimates I could find was that about 5% of the 996 engines had the IMS failure problem. 5% is not really a small number when the cost of an engine replacement is like $10k but I think that if it was replaced it should be alright now. There should have been warranty
of some sort that came with the new engine whenever it was installed. You should look into that and see how much time is left on that warranty.

Based on my research, once your engine had been replaced, there are less chances of it happening again. In fact, most of the suggestions before the purchase of a 996 is to look for cars with engines that had already been replaced. However, a replaced engine is still not a guarantee that it will never happen again, but just a lot of a lower chance than a car that had never had its engine replaced.
