Rotating ignition key

2001 C2 Cab. 58K At this weekend’s DE event I went to start the car and the key rotated, in both directions, in the cylinder without engaging. After a few frantic moments I finally jostled the steering wheel around and the key engaged. Any ideas on what the issue may have been. Rest of the day the key worked fine but I was gentle. Thank you.

I'd change the switch before it breaks on you with the key in, most likely soon. It is a typical issue in this cars. It costs about $14 or so, I think suncoast sells them but there are other places online as well. It will take you 10 minutes to switch it, basically two screws in a rather uncomfortable position (you'll be with your head below the steering wheel holding a screwdriver and a flashlight. DIY in renntech org site.

Suncoast does not sell the switch alone

I replaced the ignition assembly, black plastic, last summer when the key was getting stuck. Is this the same part or is it the entire metal assembly?

my guess would be the ignition switch...I bought extras when I replaced mine..They're cheap & easy to replace..

here's a link for DIY: it say boxster but they're the same as the C2
