I'd thought about buying a Boxster before buying mine C2 until my friends persuaded me not to because its too girlie..Somehow I'd listened to them........I don't mind driving one or even buy one if it's fully modded w/aggressive body kits & engine mod....just my .2

To the ignorant maybe. Those that have tracked a well prepared one know differently.

Thumbs up .....

In my opinion it really depends on the model..I think the 987 models looks so much better than the older Boxster models..... my first P-car was a 987 Boxster S, and I loved the car...it sticks like glue on the road and was a lot of fun.....

A couple of pics of my old Boxster.....

Cheers...!

I would say it isn't. The Boxster is a well balanced car that has a lot of potential as a track car. Even on the road its a fun little roadster. But then again the form does look more chickish than a 911 and I do see more girls driving it than guys... but that still doesn't make it a chick car imho.

My wife has a '98 986 Boxster. It's a great car, but I feel a bit self conscious every time I roll up to a stop light in it. We spend a lot of time "color coding" our cars the same way we spend a lot of time deciding what to wear...they are related. I wouldn't say that I feel like I'm driving a feminine car, but I do feel that the car isn't in line with the way I look personally.

+1 I think you hit the nail in the head. My old gf had a white boxster S with black Techart GT-S wheels and it was sweet, the car handled great, sounded great, but....for some reason I felt a bit uncomfortable driving it around by myself. Almost as if I always had to prove that it's worthy of being a true sports car, even though it had a sticker over $60k, which one could obviously buy a used turbo or GT3 for. This seems to be the vibe that I get from boxster drivers all the time, and don't get me wrong, it's a great car, but I'm just stating my emotional state towards the vehicle.

I didn't mind a Boxster, but after having a 911, I now feel it is (the non-S more so). Well, I would call it a chick's Porsche. In fact, I would consider buying one (987S with tiptronic) for my wife.

Hmm...you must have seen mine then. LOL!

My hubby bought my Boxster for himself, but after I drove it once, I fell in love with it and wanted her! So he decided to pick up a 996 for himself. He prefers the looks and the HP/torque difference. He does enjoy the Boxster though. He has a huge respect for the way she handles on the track and the twisties! So nooo...not a chick car. Especially with some nice mods.

I prefer the boxster over the 996.. I only went 911 when I found out I was having kids. I dont know if the boxster would have beat up on my 911 at the track, but it sure felt like it. It was a blast to drive

Calling it a girls car is ridiculous and if you are self conscious enough to even ask, you will never be happy in it.

I voted no, than again I am subjective and biased due the fact I own an '03. I absolutely love my vehicle more so than all else and am extremely content with the decision I had made thus far in purchasing her in 2008. Originally, I started with a '99 2.5L Boxster, made the jump to the '03 S, and will remain in so for 2-3 more years. She will not be sold and at that point I will purchase either a 911 997.2 S or a 997.2 Cayman S. I planned it out this way for a number of reasons; insurance granted my age, my driving record, a heavy foot that would and likely lead me to problems with the law, and my potential demise due to my inexperience and inability to drive a car of that caliber well enough. My car is nowhere near slow, she handles like a train on tracks, and everytime I turn the ignition the favor is returned. I will continue to enjoy her in the best of health, as should you all! Below is a picture of my ever changing vehicle.

This photograph was take two weeks ago. Since than I installed a set of Litronics, and my tail lights will be all read along side the 3rd brake light here in two weeks. New set of 18" Forgestar F14's in matte black will arrive in May, so I hope.

I have a 99 986. I do understand where all this is coming from but I always wonder why most bought 996's/7s. Was it the factor of more space or that the price tag was higher? Mid engine vs. rear? Same breaks in some cases, same options in some cases and same engines in some cases. I have a 3.4 in mine. So I guess my car may have had a sex change? Is a 996/7 a chick car if you did not buy a gt3, gt3 rs, gt2? Now that is a good question....
