Steering wheel leather; replace or dye that is the question

The steering wheel on my 1999 996 is faded in some areas. Has anyone had any good luck with just re-dying the wheel versus a full replacement? The cheapest price for a O.E. wheel is around $ 550.00 and takes about a month to arrive from Germany. Does anyone know of a good dye kit that's been used before. Any other solutions. I would not like anything in aftermarket like Momo. My color is the "savana" which is like a light brown tan. Anyone have a source for a used or reconditioned one?

Thanks,

Don't know if they have savannah for steering wheels but I do think so, give them a call. Kit is only a few bucks and reasonably easy to apply.

I had the same problem with my wheel and my shifter. I just replaced them with a black wheel and shifter.

There are people around.... check with dealerships or carlots.... that refurbish the interiors... my 99 Carrera had bolsters on the drivers side that looked ragged.... $75 later my seat looked like new.... they carry all sorts of dyes and I think they can mix n match....

I woke up early this morning, cleaned the steering wheel with TechClean, put sheets of newspaper around everything I could and sprayed 3 light coats of Graphite Leather Dye I purchased from World Upholstery http://www.worlduph.com/porsche11.htm $26 shipped. I did the leather grip to the parking brake handle, the side bolster of both the driver and passenger seat as well as the back of both seats. EXACT MATCH.
These areas were the only spots that showed any wear at all. Now I would rate my STOCK interior and carpeting a 10 out of 10.
The guy I bought my 996 from was the original owner and loved the car, the general condition and detailed file full of service records he gave along with a brand new never used Porsche Car Cover and Bra show it.
When I die I want to be buried in this car. My 3rd Porsche 911, but hands down my favorite.

DYE IT DONT BUY IT.
