The miles are a little high I think. That might explain some of it.
I paid 67.7K for my 03 cab in may of last year. My car is a year newer and a cab and bought 8 months ago......

Raja,
checked the car this morning, It;s clean, no excessive wear inside or out, no noticable oil leaks, new tires, 18" wheels, no options except sport seats, thicker steering wheel, not a bad car for the money, although I did not drive it. Warranty a must.

that's about the same price my loaded 01 cab with 1/2 the miles went for, and it had one owner not 16. that car is not cheap with 32k miles.

No Options except sport seats and thicker sterring wheel.

Are you sure it even has the thicker wheel and it hasn't just been re-wrapped.

As for no options but sport seats that means the MSRP was under 70k, so at around 50k for a 3 year old car with miles it does sound low, but not too low. It may also be hard for them to sell a "stripper", many people spending on a porsche want some options in their cars. That's why most 996's have a bit of options on them. My 03 C2 was way over 80k msrp when I bought it new and that's before my mods so a stripped car could be worth 10-15k less than the average used price since most C2's are in the 80k-90k range or more new.

I do agree if the carfax says so many owners that's strange, but if it has been purchased and passed around dealers who can't sell it due to low options then it might be a steal for a project car since most stuff would be ripped out anyway.

Cheers,
Corey

Ben,

Who ever bought your cab got a steal unless you traded it in then they always try to low ball you. I was told I could get 19k on a trade in for my Wife's Avant wagon, and I was offered privatly 27k which I turned down as I want to order my Cayenne so I can't sell the avant right now.

Corey...

P.S. About your Cayenne issue, If I was in your position I would be screaming bloody murder at PCNA to have them fix everything since you have just spent a half a million dollars with them on cars recently. I would also have them get you connected with another dealer who actually checks the TSB's for your complaints like the oil usage one.

On the CGT glove box issue, don't feel bad my neighbor's Ferrari was about 2 weeks old when the electrical system started acting up, so I guess the grass is always greener.

nope, i worked on selling the 996 for a couple months before it finally sold thru a private party sale. i've haven't traded in a car in a little over 20 years.

pcna is aware of the 993 and 996 cabs, CT, and CGT i've bought over the last 5 years along with the fact they were all serviced at the dealer - always. they don't care. there are no tsb's for the oil consumption on the turbo (or tire usage) and pcna considers both "normal". the tsb for the hesitation was a waste of my time as it accomplished nothing.

i've got the same mileage on both the stradale and cgt, and the only one of the two cars that has had an issue thus far is the porsche (which has also consumed 2 qts of oil vs. 0 for the stradale). then again, the oil fill cap did work it's way off on the stradale after every 100 or so miles of spirited driving but apparently the fix is to tighten it when warm because it hasn't acted up since.

edit: oh yeah, i forgot the cgt headlights fog up (like the cayennes for which they finally got a fix after a year and a half). full head light strength at the speeds this car is capable of should be consider crucial.

Ben,

I did not say the car was cheap, I said the price was not bad for the car as I saw it, I didn't know about the car fax, many owners deal, just my opinion, also as you know there are many differences in the 02 over the 01.

sure, and there is a $10k diff between a coupe and a cab which should offset the 01 to 02 difference. my car also had 02 5-spoke carrera wheels, porsche turbo brakes, lots of factory options ($90k MSRP) including the supple leather/full power seats/comfort package/advanced technic package/heated seats/psm/, a porsche HPAS (high performance audio system) available only through porsche parts, with the 15k service just done.

Why so many owners? Can you really rely on the Carfax? They're notoriously wrong... With that many owners, there's obviously something wrong. If the Carfax is wrong, then it's a great price. But 996 prices are pretty sucky these days, and sometimes people just want to get rid of cars. It's also very possible that a PPI would reveal an accident or something else...
