Not happy with lowering of '02 C4 Cab
My buddy still can not register to become a member, so I’m posting this request for him:
I just had my ’02 C4 cab lowered and I’m EXTEREMLY disappointed. The local porsche dealer showed me a couple of cars that had only springs installed and the fenders were about ½†above the tire (which was acceptable to me). Note that I have ordered 19†HRE 545R wheels that will be installed the first week in February. The dealer installed H&R 29 466 VA springs in the front and H&R 29 466 HA in the rear (should they be the same?).
The front is about .75†in the front but 1.75†in the rear above the tire. The car looks like it is at an angle, with the rear being higher. The dealer requested a couple of days for the car to settle, and it would drop a little more.
Has anyone experienced this issue? Please don’t respond with you should have installed shocks & springs, etc…I feel this may be the only viable response.
Thank you in advance!

Whether your wheels you have coming (and their offsets) will be a good 'fit' with this suspension is something I'm sure you've researched..........however, only comment I'd make is Porsche has dif spring sets for the C2,C4, Coupe, Cab, Tip.......I'm pretty sure H&R is the same (or should be)........bottom-line, be sure you have the right spring set for your car.
Part numbers are generally for the 'set' though there probably is some individual front/rear number.
911s should have some rake profile (front-to-rear-IMHO).......but the #s you mention seem extreme.......GT3 for instance, measures 10-15 mm lower in front than rear.
Good luck.

Something is wrong....I had my Boxster done with just springs, and it was instatntly lower, and it settles beyond that. Are you saying the car was HIGHER in the rear? almost 2 inches above the tire? Either, they put the wrong springs in, or they installed them incorrectly. Or they are the wrong springs.
H & R has 2 sets of spring choices. Race which drops the car around 1 1/2 inch all the way around (stiff) and "Sport" which drops the car 1 inch all around and ride is identical to stock. You do want to have your car racked towards the front somewhat but ....

There's definitely something wrong here. I did the H&R springs only on my C4, and it lowered the car consistently all the way around. The springs don't really settle much if at all, so forget about that.
As for doing springs only, lots of people will tell you not to do it and all sorts of stuff about it screwing up the handling of the car blah blah blah blah blah. None of these people has ever done it, and probably don't even know anybody that has. I had 32K miles on my C4 when I did it, and planned on swapping the shocks in a few thousand miles after that. I was curious to see what it would be like with just swapping the springs because I'm a glutton for punishment. The verdict: the car handled just like stock, but with slightly less body roll.
BTW, the spring rates for the front and rear of the car are different too, so the dealer should have used different springs.

I also had a local independent install the H&R springs only in
my 99 coupe and it lowered it all around 1.5" consistently.
Also teflon jones is correct, these springs dont settle.
The dealer ethier didnt install them correctly or they are
not the right springs for your 996.
I in Fort Lauderdale by the way.

I did the cargraphic springs in my C2 cab. Consistent drop all the way around, with no settling to date. Like Teflon said, similar ride and handling, but with less roll. The "do coilovers only or you'll spin out and die mentality" is a bunch of bull****
Springs are just fine for 99% of the driving I, and probably most of us do. You'd be hard pressed to ever even see 8/10's of your car's ability on the street.
Unless you're going to the track on a regular basis, what's the point of coilovers. How many of us on here are going to chunk out $300 for an alignment every time you adjust ride height. I bet 99% of the people set the height and never mess with it again. They could have saved a $1000 and gone with a matched spring/shock set. I had coilvovers on my last car. Set it once, and never F'd with it again. What a waste of money.
