1999 Slipping Tip

I'm looking at a '99 that according to the owner has a Tip that "slips" especially when cold. 110,000 miles and decent other than that. I'm checking out the car in a couple of days and am wondering:
1. If is is unusual for a 993 110K tranny to be bad?
2. Could it be something as simple as fluid change?
3. Can they be adj or is it pretty much exchange city?
Thanks in Adv

a 996, you mean.
It could mean that, fluid change or some other small things.
It could mean that you need a new one.

Take to a place that knows tips, and let them assess it. If you take to a place that do not really deal with tips, most likely they will tell you that you need a new trannie, regardless of what is really going on.
