Engine cover strut

My 2000 C2 cab engine lid will not stay open. The single strut used is obviously bad. Can they be rebuilt, and if not, where is the best place to find a replacement? It appears there may be mounting bosses for a second strut on the opposite side of the lid. Can two be installed? Same item as the right side strut? Thanks in advance.

I hope the picture uploaded, but I have 2 struts, perhaps that is your problem having only one... I would check out LA Porsche Dismantlers if I needed something like that!

You might as well buy a new one. They are like $20. I looked up the part number, and it appears to be: 996 512 551 03.

Call Suncoast and find verify the part, and that you only need one (PET shows 2 for C4S, and 1 for C2). But I wouldn't rebuild a $20 part...

+1 on buying a new set, they are cheap, I just replaced the two on my front lid, 2 minutes tops, they pop on and off after you use a small flat blade driver to lossen the small band clamp thingy. (technical term)
