Lowering my 996 Cab
Lowering my 996 Cab
Hello,
In the near future, I am considering lowering my 199 996 C2 Cab. I must admit that I am pretty new to this process and I had a few concern about it. The main reason I am lowering is because I don't like the look of my car, the front seems higher from the ground than the back. Would lowering solve mt problem ? I am not tracking or driving my car like a pro driver. It's only for week end spririted drives. I am considering changing springs only as it is the cheapest way to do it. Coil over is too expensive for my needs and I don't think they will suit my driving style.
What would you recommend to do. Will lowering with springs is what I need ? What are the consequence of doing such thing to my car. Will spacers be required ? Wich springs should I get ? and more....
Your comments and inputs in this mather are greatly appreciated.

I'm not a big supporter of only using springs. The springs and dampers are made to work together, if you just use springs, your dampers will not be in their normal position and it will impact handling. Not a lot, but it will.
I'd suggest you look at upgrading your car to the Euro standard suspension (not the M030 sport suspension). As I recall, that only involves changing the front springs and dampers. The rears were the same. I did that to my 00 Cab and it lowered the front end and made the turn-in much better. I picked up the parts at a dealer in Germany and had them installed at a local shop...
Check with Gert at www.carnewal.com. I'm sure he can get the parts.
Good luck.

X74 is the Porsche lowered suspension. X74 is only for 2002 and later isn't it? I have the PSS9's on my 99 C4 Cab....it is wonderful. Even for everyday driving as it's adjustable and it can be set to softer than factory so the ride may actually get better not worse. If you go springs only, then you should do shocks that are designed for a lowered car. So when you gactor in springs and shocks, you may want to just go the extra bit and get the PSS9's. By the way, since the PSS9s are height adjustable as well, you can get the car to the height YOU want it.
Hello,
Thanks for the help. However, Coil over Pss9 and X74 is just too much for what I wanted to spend on the car. I was just wondering if for look wise, regular springs like H&r ot Eibach (from tirerack) will do the job. What I notice is that they either lower 1.0 inch (F &B) or 1.25inch (f &b). Willl it give me the look I wanted or would it only make a lower car with the front remaining higher than the rear ?

Like, I said... Go with the Cargrahic springs, if that's what you're gonna do. I researched it to death. You don't need to swap your shocks, unless you car is pretty old with a lot miles, then you may want to consider. Otherwise the car rides and handles just fine. The CG drop is dead even and the ride is excellent. If you're not tracking the car and it's not in you budget, then don't bother CO's or changing the shocks. I've got about a 15mm gap between my fender and the top of my 19's, which is low as I wanted to go anyway. I'm already scraping the front end as it is. Stay far away from the Eibach's. Heard bad stuff about their product for our application. I've also heard the H&R's can a be a little stiff, but they do work well. If you're in FL, you're more than welcome to drive my car.

Hey DeputyDog! By the positive feedback you've provided regarding the Cargraphic sport springs, I assume you haven't experienced any rattles, clanking, or metal on metal sounds.
I recently installed sport springs from The Racers Group, and the front springs were noisey as hell!! They were supposed to be wrapped with PVC however I received a bad front pair. The Racers Group was proactive to replace the pair and compensate my shop for added labor, however with the snow in my driveway I have not had the new pair put on. TGR wouldn't disclose who made the springs, however I'm now wondering if they're Eibachs.
Also, the TGR springs lowered the front slightly more than the rear of the car which is a dissapointment. I like the look of the DeputyDog yellow cab!
I too don't want the full coilover set up since I don't drive the track, just want the lower stance and improved handling. I may have to bite the bullet and order the Cargraphic springs.
