K & N Air Filter?

I bought my 996 C2 with Gemballa exhaust already intact. I was advised recently that the only way to really get any added performance (however minute) from the Gemballa exhaust, is to also put in a K&N Air Filter. Can anyone offer any insight on this?

Thanks in advance.

I didn't know there were two different types. How much ($) is the one that you put on? Did you do it yourself and if so, was is an easy install?

i believe i paid around $75...did it myself...pretty easy to do...took about 15-20min to drop it in...you can get the cone version...more expensive...higher intake but will void the warranty

ahem, that would mean a 60 HP increase? ummmm no way! it probably increases air flow by 22% maybe better throttle response but no real gains in HP.

...and there's a possibility that it will trigger a CEL if the filter is oiled too much and foul up the MAF.

How do you prevent from being oiled to much? I hear that K&N filters are already oiled coming from the factory? Do you let it drip dry first before installing?

It's not going to drip when you remove it from the packaging....

a friend of mine put it on top of a newspaper overnight after removing from the package and oil did end up on the newspaper by morning...that's what i meant.

that's why i asked. i didn't mean that it was dripping wet with oil when first taken out of the package.

the ones that come pre-oiled should be fine but, for good measure, put a piece of paper towel between the grooves and let it soak up excess oil.

You may also lay it out in the Sun for a bit with a terry cloth under to soak up after you oil it down.... after followed by a pat down.

Why would the cone type void you warranty. Don't they have to prove your modification caused the problem?
