PSS9 Spring Pre-load question
PSS9 Spring Pre-load question
I was under my car over the weekend looking at adjusting the damping on my shocks and saw this. The car was corner weighted at GMG by the previous owner according to the receipts, but I have to say that if the helper spring is totally compressed I wonder why it would be included which makes me think this is not setup properly.
Any thoughts, see attached pic.

This is normal and correct. The helper spring function is simply to keep all the parts together when the suspension is unloaded; like when you jack up one corner of the car. But as long as the car is setting on its suspension these helper springs will be fully compressed. Properly sized helper springs (in relation to the main spring, load, and travel) in this series configuration will have zero impact on the resulting spring rate.
This picture was taken when the left rear was jacked up and the tire was removed. I guess if the helper spring is compressed at ride height, then it shouldn't matter. Thanks for the reply.
