996 Tires

2002 996 C2 Cab w/ H&R Springs & Spacers. I travel about 20,000 highway miles yearly. I have had several sets of Conti2's for the last 30,000 miles and they performed well. I am considering Bridgestone S03, more Conti2's or possibly Falken FK451. Please let me know your recommendations.

Thanks.

Hi Ralph,
What about Michelin. They're a great tire.

Do they make 225/40/18 and 285/30/18? Are they readily available? Is it PS, PS2, or PS Rib?

How on earth did you ever get your Conti's to last that long. I've never been able to get more than 14k out of any of my sets. I hated every mile with them. They are noisy. The grip was 'okay' at best.

I just installed Michelin PS2s and I am liking them so far. They do make the size you need. However, consider the 235 for the front, I am little disappointed with my 225's, (On my wheels especially) they look a little stretched. Also, I put 295s in the rear.

Robin...he clarified the 30,000 mile comment over on the rennlist board. He said he is on his 3rd set of rear tires...which makes more sense.

I was very happy with the dry grip of the Conti's, but the wet grip really stank like monkey droppings.

Driving in Boston where we have rain so much, I dumped them for some Proxes T1S. They were great in the rain, but not as grippy as the Conti's on dry pavement.

It's been my experience that lifespan of ANY rear tire averages 8-10k on these cars.

damon - i still have the original Pilot Sport N1's on my '03 C2 with about 14K miles. My rear tires "seem" to have plenty of tread left but I was looking at replacing them soon anyway just to be safe. I checked out tirerack.com and it appears that Pilot Sport Ribs have replaced my tires. Is it a problem to just get rears if I get the ribs or should I replace all 4?

Also, I was going to stick with the Pilot Sports mainly because they were ranked #1 amongst the ultra high performance tires on your comparison chart. The Ribs are not on there - are they as good as the original Pilot Sports or would you recommend something else.

I want the all around best tire for wet/dry traction, noise, tread life, etc....

thanks a ton

Damon, pushing 15K on Pzeros with plenty of tread left on the rears....But in response to the original post, how about the Kumho's? I had a set on my Boxster and I liked them alot. Lots of grip in the wet and dry. I had Ecsta 712's. I wouldn't hesitate to put a set on my 996 if I got similar performance from them.
