I have to admit while doing some DE's I have stayed out past the time my gauge says ---. Our cars have a 17 Gal tank (?). When I got off the track and went to the local gas station I put in roughly 15 gallons. I had 2 to spare.

LOL, I do the same but merely because I don't drive mine regularly and don't want a bunch of stale gas just sitting in the tank. But it is funny to be putting in 2 gallons...

Did an 800 mile road trip yesterday. First fill-up the OBC said 10 miles then went blank. Still made it a couple of miles more to a gas station. The second fill up I was at about 15 miles. Probably won't take that chance again.

Strange. With most cars, if it says "--- to empty," you still have a lot of gas in there. I ran two different BMWs down to zero and still had at least two gallons in there. Once was late at night on Cape Cod with very few stations around and my wife looking very nervous. She fills up the tank if it falls below 1/2.
