Shift cable problem--help

I was told by my mechanic that my shift cable retaining clips are broken by the tranny and now held on with zip ties. To fix the issue I would need new cables and installed they would be around $800.00
Has anyone had this issue? Is it a major issue or a minor one? Any photos of this area in question?
Thanks in advance.

You can buy the clips separate from the cables for only a few bucks, I did, but I also have zip ties as a backup, and the zip ties will work fine on their own. $800 is way too much to spend to solve a small problem.

A number of posts about this on the 997 forum. A lot of it (not all) seems to be associated with guys who slam the stick shift. Generally, european transmissions have a long history of expecting a light touch rather than the American hot rod style of shifting.
