Cleaning the MAF Sensor

Has anyone done this recently? Anyone know where I can find DIY instructions on cleaning the MAF? I got the electronic cleaner but I don't know how to take the MAF out...

I'm paranoid of damaging the MAF sensor...since I've been told that the reading is somewhat connected to the ECU and relates to how much fuel is injected into the engine. (I thought the MAF was just a smog check device but it turns out to be critical to the engine functioning properly).

Any advice would help.

Thanks.

I just cleaned mine and it worked. Remove with torx tool (2 screws) and disconnect wiring. Spray with quick dry electrical cleaner several times, I did it 3, until it looks clean. The wire electrode with the resistor in it is all you need to spray. Let air dry and replace. I also have a new one ready from Brandywine for 381$. Will

Wil,

Is it the one connected to the air filter box with two very small torx screws? I will try it tonight.

Thanks so much.

Why are you cleaning it? That's something I would try to avoid if possible. The only reason why it would need cleaning is because you are using an after market cold induction kit that has a K&N filter that uses oil. If you are using that type of filter, cut back on the oiling because it will work better with out too much oil applied to the filter plus it won't coat your MAF with oil. Just my $.05.

Yeah, I do have a K&N Filter on. The CEL came on about a month ago and has not gone off. Before, it usually comes on and goes off after a day or two of driving.
